Everyday when passing through the cities of India, it is an unfortunate sight – stray cows eating from garbage dumps. And what makes it even more tragic is that in their helplessness they are forced to eat the plastic bags containing the food thrown out by society.
These plastic bags lead to a slow and painful death for the cow over the coming months. It is a shame and a blot on a society that any animal – let alone the Holy Cow – has to suffer due to our deeds.
Who is responsible for this ? While the blame can be passed around to many sections of our society, one major culprit is the consumer. That is you and me. Any consumer who accepts a plastic bag from the vegetable vendor, and then uses it to throw leftovers in the garbage. That garbage is dumped at places where these helpless and hungry animals are forced to eat these bags – to reach their food.
What can we do ? Compostable carry bags are made from corn starch and even if the animal eats it, the bag is fully digestible. Each and every one of us must join this mission to completely replace plastic carry bags (including biodegradable ones as they contain plastic along with other chemicals that are harmful if consumed).
How can you help ? Contact our team on the phone and one of our Enviro Managers will discuss with you on how you can do your part. Remember that if you can even replace a few thousand plastic bags in your area with compostable bags – that is a few thousand lives impacted. You can make a huge difference with very little effort.
